For more than fifty years the last words of Stephen Drysdale, executed for his part in armed robbery and murder, have remained hidden from view in a sealed envelope. Then, unexpectedly, the envelope is reunited with Drysdale’s now ageing solicitor, Gerald Lambert.

What Happens when the seal is broken?

For more than fifty years the last words of Stephen Drysdale, executed for his part in armed robbery and murder, have remained hidden from view in a sealed envelope. Then, unexpectedly, the envelope is reunited with Drysdale’s now ageing solicitor, Gerald Lambert. Cautiously Lambert breaks the seal, watched by his wife and their friends. Yvonne Clarkson, an attractive young fashion journalist and her partner, Robert Vere, a solicitor. All stare intently as the pages are eased from the envelope, unaware that the “genie is being let out of the bottle.”

Following a coincidence, which Vere initially refuses to accept, just one slender piece of information leads Clarkson to George Noakes, an ageing boxing trainer. Believing Noakes to be one of the killers she panics him into contacting the other gunman, Miles Overstone, now a master criminal specialising in extortion and drug running. Her actions unwittingly set in progress a chain of events drawing her and Vere into a spiralling web of fraud, intrigue, murder, abduction and attempted murder.

Systematically they, and the police, are outwitted by Overstone who, recognising the threat posed by the couple lures them into captivity. Then, desperate to get abroad, he drives away leaving the couple to face a lingering and cruel death.

With time running out the police finally get the information they need to raid Overstone’s property. But will their rescue efforts be successful, or will they be left recovering bodies? Set in and around London and the Thames Valley area this fast-moving thriller reaches a terrifying, and horrific climax, as time runs out for those involved with unexpected consequences.
