All too often, there is a difference between grammar books and writing books because many grammar books treat their subject as an academic study rather than one that is going to be used.
Marion Field however has delivered a book that explains how grammar works with an emphasis on how you should use it in writing. Early chapters are concerned with the practical basics of grammar and punctuation (including, for example, advice for making a friend of the dreaded apostrophe). Only then does it move on to advice on how best to construct (grammatically correct) sentences and paragraphs.

Later there is advice on developing a good writing style and finally a section titled English in Action. This has advice on many forms of writing, from short stories and essays onwards, with an emphasis on the role that good grammar has to play in the writing process.

If you have been troubled by grammar, here is a book that will give you greater confidence in your handling of English.
