The Naked Author

Once upon a time, self-publishing was what authors did if they could not find a trade publisher. Today it is often the preferred option, depending on such factors as target audience, marketing aims, and positioning in the market place.

As self-publishing has changed, so has the complexity of the industry supporting it. There are a host of editorial consultancies, Print on Demand providers, book designers and self-publishing support companies.

The support companies provide a range of services, from editing to print management, which the self-publisher can buy a la carte. And lurking on the fringes are the notorious vanity publishers – rogues whom you will learn to spot with Alison Baverstock’s help.

If you are planning to self-publish, here is a guide that will help you plan your project, find the help and services best suited to your individual needs, be in total control of every phase, and end up with a book to be proud of.
