How to Get a Break as a Writer

d59bad3c-cddd-44d2-931c-b06e8e981d83

Neil Nixon’s theme is that there are a surprising range of opportunities for writers to sell their work, if they are prepared to look beyond the obvious markets and to work at creating their own luck. His book is largely case studies of writers who have done exactly that and have found profitable markets by going out and looking for them.

Very seldom is there such a thing as a ‘lucky break’, breaks come to those who actively seek and engineer them.  Among the examples that the book analyses are cases of writers who have approached commercial companies and persuaded them of their need for new customer services that are writing based. And commercial companies can often provide other opportunities, such as writing for company house journals, a market that many writers ignore.

Neil Nixon’s book explains a strategy for seeking out new writing opportunities and converting them into income. All you need is a high level of creativity and bags of energy.
