Nick Delmar has left his City job and is working on a suburban weekly newspaper in Surrey, while he writes a novel. On a local estate a woman is found unconscious, next to the body of a dead man. Soon after, a ten year old boy from the same estate goes missing.

These are Nick’s first major stories for the Hillside Gazette.

Is there a link? Was the boy a witness to a desperate struggle? Is his life in danger? As Nick follows up leads, he becomes involved with Tina, the woman left unconscious after the struggle, and with Carol, the young single mother of the missing boy.  He also makes friends with local radio journalist, Melissa, with whom he co-operates, and sometimes competes.

But as the investigation continues and Nick begins to unravel the truth, he meets increasing danger, and his own life and the lives of those with whom he has become involved, are put in jeopardy.
