Writing For Children The Essential Guide

7a73b1a0-3c8d-423e-8657-51ccebf83d46

Writing for children is a big subject: it encompasses a range of genres and audience age-groups. It is amazing that this book in the Need2Know essential writing guides manages to cover such a vast field in a comparatively thin volume. But cover it all it does, from an analysis of the market sub-groups through to the nuts and bolts of getting published.

It has a good deal to say about that all-important question of inventing character, with plenty of good, practical exercises to try. And it also treats setting as a major consideration, showing how setting can shape and hone a story.   Between them, characterisation and setting go a long way towards evolving a plot structure – although developing a plot that keeps interest at a constant high is also an art form of its own.

Writing style is another major subject here, where it looks at simple but vital rules for developing a style of your own that will be right for a young readership.
