The Serious Guide to Joke Writing

Sally Holloway has spent years on the circuit doing everything from stand-up comic to presenting radio programmes that give a humorous slant on the news.

Writing jokes is not about sitting down and waiting for inspiration. It is very hard work. But if you follow her guidance you will be surprised how good you can be at creating original, and very funny, jokes. She shows techniques for inventing jokes based on puns and wordplay, for creating jokes from news headlines and news stories (which enables you to write topical jokes) and writing stream of consciousness jokes.
