The selected writer will be creating work in response to the exhibition Eric Gill: The Body

The Eric Gill: The Body exhibition includes disturbing personal material relating to the influential and controversial sculptor, printer and typeface designer's abuse of his daughters, and asks whether knowledge of Gill's biography affects the experience of viewing his work. The writer in residence will be involved in capturing visitors' thoughts on the exhibition and the challenging questions it poses. It will be open to the selected writer to decide how they would like to creatively capture visitor responses. The museum views this feedback as crucial to the future interpretation planning and exhibitition strategy.

There is an artist fee of £1,750 plus up to £1,000 for the production of a creative outcome, and the possibility that the chosen writer in residence will be able to use the Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft's Stanhope Press, which was used by Eric Gill, in conjunction with a letterpress artist.

The residency will take place in July and August.
