The Royal Society Grants, awarded twice a year, are for writers who need time away from their normal lives to write

The RSL Brookleaze Grants, a total of £5,000 each year, are awarded twice a year to writers (novelists, poets, playwrights, short story writers) to enable them to take sabbaticals from their jobs to research a write, or to travel.

Writers applying from an RSL Brookleaze Grant must have been previously published by a trade press, or have had work performed in a theatre, or have a commission for the current work. All applicants must be UK residents.

The closing date for this round of applications is 7 November.
