An edition of Tolstoy's epic novel sold through Barnes & Noble's Nook store has had the words 'kindle' or 'kindled' replaced throughout by the words 'nook' or 'nookd.'
This has resulted in such howlers as: 'When the flame of the sulphur splinters Nookd by the tinder burned up.'
War and Peace is now in the public domain. The altered edition, from a company called Superior Formatting Publishing, sells at 99c on the Nook store. Although intended to be read on Nook ereaders, the version is not a Barnes & Noble ebook.
