The six shortlisted stories can be downloaded so that readers can vote for their favourite. The writers' names are not provided.
The winner of the Costa Short Story Award 2014 will get £3,500. The second prize winner will get £1,000 and the third prize winner will get £500.
More than 1,000 stories were entered for this year's contest, which was for stories of up to 4,000 words.
Readers can vote up to 16 January.
