Theatre writing award: The Kay Mellor Fellowship
Leeds Playhouse is offering a new £10,000 fellowship for Northern writers for stage and screen
The inaugural Kay Mellor Fellow will spend 12 months on attachment at Leeds Playhouse, developing their script and assessing scripts with the artistic planning team. They will also spend time with Kay Mellor's production team Rollem Productions and develop a TV pitch for their own script.
The fellowship is open to writers from the North of England who have written between one and three professionally produced plays and have an idea for a new full-length production. They should have an interest in writing for TV but no previous screenwriting credits.
To apply, send an existing script and complete the online application form, which requires in-depth responses to questions about how your writing resonates with the themes and values of Leeds Playhouse and Rollem Productions and how the Fellowship would impact on your professional and personal success, and an outline for an original idea for a full-length stage play that could be developed for television.
The Fellowship will take place between January and December 2020 and the Fellow will be paid a fee of £10,000.
The closing date for applications is 21 October.
