Ten young writers between 18 and 25 have been shortlisted for the prize, which offers the chance of a publication contract with Hot Key Books worth £10,000 to the winner

 

The shortlist is:

9-12 years category: Kate Herrell (22), Ragamuffin; Heather Lawson (22), That’s Charming; Cethan Leahy (25) Moor; Cassie Leung (21) A Jar of Magic (Historical/Fantasy); Jake Schiffler (20, Ozer and the Proots

13-19 years category: Alexa Adams (22), Pamplona; Katie Coyle (25),Vivian Versus the Apocolypse; Joe Ducie (24), The Rig; Katie O’Neill (21), The Clock-Eye Corporation; Catherine Queen (25) The Twain

Hot Key publisher Emily THomas said: 'Knowing the broad quality of submissions we have received overall for the Young Writers Prize - across both age categories - I am very much looking forward to reading our shortlisted titles, and of course crossing my fingers as we search for a future star novelist!'

A winner in each category will be announced at the London Book Fair (15-17 April) in 2013.
