Spread the Word's competition for London writers has a first prize of £1,000

Now in its seventh year, The London Short Story Prize is for original, unpublished short stories up to 5,000 words by writers with a London postcode. The first prize is £1,000 and there are two runner-up prizes of £250. The winners' story will be published in Open Pen London and the full longlist will have their stories published in the London Short Story Prize 2019 Anthology.

This year's judges are Rowan Hisayo Buchanan, Eley Williams and literary agent Charlotte Seymour.

The entry fee is £10 per story. 50 free entries are being offered to low-income writers on a first-come, first-served basis.

The closing date is 7 October.
