Four young writers between 14 and 17 will receive career development awards
Three awards will be made to young people writing in English or Scots, and a fourth award is available to a person writing in Gaelic.
The awards will include a six-month mentoring period with a published author, a visit to a top London publisher, a writing retreat at Moniack Mhor and opportunities to meet industry professionals.
To apply for a Young Writers Award 2014, writers who are between 14 and 17 and living in Scotland should send a piece of creative writing (poem, short story or extract from a longer work) of no more than 2,000 words, and a personal statement of 1,000 words.
'Scotland has a vibrant literary scene and these awards offer an amazing opportunity for keen young writers to have their talent nurtured in a unique atmosphere of creativity and encouragement. The quality of work submitted in previous years has been outstanding and I look forward to discovering some of the great Scottish writers of tomorrow,' said Will Mackie, writer development manager at Scottish Book Trust.
The closing date for applications is 27 June.
