Barry Unsworth, who won the 1992 Booker Prize with his novel about the 18th century slave trade, has died aged 81
Historical novelist Unsworth shared the 1992 Booker win for Sacred Hunger with Michael Ondaatje's The English Patient.
Unsworth wrote seventeen novels, three of which were Booker-shortlisted. The follow-up to Sacred Hunger, The Quality of Mercy, was published last year.

Barry Unsworth died on 5 June, the day on which another influential and important writer, veteran science fiction author Ray Bradbury, also passed away. Bradbury was 91. Both writers had a great impact on the world of literature.
