This month's cover star, rising crime star AA Dhand, is a great WM success story

Each month we work hard to make the content of Writing Magazine as good as it can be, but the August issue, on sale today, makes us particularly proud. Crime novelist AA Dhand, whose second novel, Girl Zero, will be published by Big Five imprint Transworld on 13 July, is a long-term WM subscriber whose path to publication is a triumphant story which proves that dedication and persistence really do pay off.

We're thrilled to have him on this month's cover, and you can read about his inspirational writing journey in this month's star interview. We spent a terrific day with him in his hometown, Bradford – the atmospheric location for his gritty, noir novels – and were able to film him in some of the key locations for Streets of Darkness and Girl Zero.

You can buy the print issue in the shops today, and both the print and digital editions here on the website.
