Radio 4 has partially changed its mind about the decision to cut its weekly short story broadcasts from three to one, announcing that it will broadcast two short stories each week
The Society of Authors' online petition against the proposed cuts to Radio 4's short story slots has attracted more than 5,500 signatories, including Stephen Fry, Joanna Lumley, Ian Rankin, Sarah Waters, A.S. Byatt and Kate Atkinson.
Radio 4 intends to broadcast short stories in two slots, on Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings. Additional short stories will be aired on BBC Radio 4 Extra.
