Pottermore, launched two days ago as the exclusive portal for downloading Harry Potter ebooks, has attracted a few gripes

Internet commentators have grumbled that the Pottermore process is complicated and that there are language and regional restrictions. For instance, US readers have to read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone rather than Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

On the plus side, the Pottermore books are DRM-free, which means that an ebook or audio-book file bought from the site can be downloaded up to eight times and pushed to different devices. The trick is to download it to your computer first, rather than taking it straight to a device. Pottermore is the only e-tailer currently offering this. Another first is that buyers looking for Harry Potter ebooks on Amazon are redirected away from the site to Pottermore.
