The 2017 Biennial Poetry Competition will be judged by Dawn Gorman

The competition, which is organised for Mere Litfest by PennyBank Writers of Mere, is for original, unpublished poems on any topic. Poems may be up to 40 lines.

In the main open competition, there is a first prize of £200, a second prize of £100 and a third prize of £50. Three runners up will each get £15. There is also a local prize for the best poem by a poet living within a 10-mile radius of Mere, and a junior section with prizes for poets aged 12 and under.

In the open competition, the entry fee is £3.50 for the first entry and £2.50 for any subsequent entries.

The closing date is 26 June.
