The first nine titles in the exclusive, digital-only Penguin Shorts series will be available from 1 December

The titles are A Guest at the Feast, a memoir by Colm Toibin; At the Hairdressers, a novella by Anita Brookner; Protection, a story by Helen Dunmore; The Happiness of Blond People, an examination of national identiy by Elif Shafak; How to Set Up a Free School by Toby Young; How to be a Rogue Trader by John Gapper; Perfect Christmas Day, a recipe book by Felicity Cloake, and two war titles: Great Battles: The Battle of Alamein: North Africa 1942 by John Bierman & Colin Smith, and Great Battles: The Battle of Isandlwana by Saul David.

Each will be available for a launch price of £1.99. Further titles are planned to be published each month.

Penguin Shorts have been explicitly designed as short reads to be read on a digital device.
