The competition, for essays by writers between 18 and 35, has a first prize of £1,000

Now in its fifth year, the Bodley Head/Financial Times Essay Prize aims to discover new young talent in long-form essay writing.

The competition is for essays up to 3,500 words. Essays may be on any subject, and written in any style: journalistic, case study, wide ranging or closely focused.

The winner will receive £1,000, e-publication by The Bodley Head and a mentoring session with Financial Times and The Bodley Head. Two runners up will each win £500 and e-publication.

The prize is free to enter. The closing date is 29 January.
