The new awards, worth £10,000 and £5,000, are to help new writers complete a first book of non-fiction
To apply, writers should be writing their first commissioned work of non-fiction for a general readership, due to be published in the UK or Republic of Ireland. Applying writers must already have a publishing contract. The awards are expected to be used to allow the writer to finish the project/work, ie by financing research or allowing time away from employment.
The new awards are the result of a bequest from author Giles St Aubyn FRSL, who died in 2015. Giles St Aubyn wrote 14 non-fiction books and taught history at Eton College.
Applications for the new Royal Society of Literature Giles St Aubyn Awards for Non-Fiction 2017 should be made by 2 October.
