The six titles that will compete for the 2013 Man Booker Prize have just been released
They are:
• Noviolet Bulaweyo, We Need New Names (Chatto & Windus)
• Eleanor Catton, The Luminaries (Granta)
• Jim Crace, Harvest (Picador)
• Jhumpa Lahiri, The Lowland (Bloomsbury)
• Ruth Ozeki, A Tale for the Time Being (Canongate)
• Colm Toibin, The Testament of Mary (Penguin)
Chair of judges Robert Macfarlane said: 'We looked for books that sought to extend the power and possibility of the form. This is in keeping with the history of the novel. We wanted novel novels.'
The winner of the £50,000 will be announced on 15 October. Each shortlisted author receives £2.500.
