The Irish author won the £30,000 award for her debut, The Glorious Heresies

Lisa, the 21st winner of the Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction, was presented with her award at a ceremony at the Royal Festival Hall last night.

Lisa, from Galway, is the author of the award-winning Arse End of Ireland blog. The Glorious Heresies is a black comedy set in the Cork underworld. Before writing the novel, she had published just one short story, but made a name for herself with the blog.

Margaret Mountford, chair of judges, said: 'After a passionate discussion around a very strong shortlist, we chose Lisa McInerney’s The Glorious Heresies, a superbly original, compassionate novel that delivers insights into the very darkest of lives through humour and skilful storytelling. A fresh new voice and a wonderful winner.'
