Writing competition: new novel prize from Trapeze Books

6e8edd3a-133d-48a2-affc-6b50b3f3f160

Write a novel celebrating single parent families and you could earn yourself a £10,000 publishing contract in a new prize from Orion imprint Trapeze Books.

The One in Four new writer contest, run jointly by Trapeze, single parents' charity Gingerbread and women's lifestyle website The Pool, has the dual aims of finding new writing talent and raising awareness of single parent families. The name reflects that one in four families with children in England and Wales has a single parent.

To enter, submit the first 5,000 words of a novel that celebrates single parent life. The winner will receive a £10,000 publishing contract with Trapeze and three hours of mentoring from bestselling author Tilly Bagshawe, who was a teenage single mum to her first daughter.

'I was lucky enough to receive incredible help and support when I needed it most, from my parents, teachers and others,' said Tilly. 'But I am well aware that many young mothers (and fathers) are not so fortunate. This competition is a unique chance to foster their talent and allow their voices to be heard. I am delighted to be a part of it.'

Judging the competition along with Tilly will be novelist Jem Lester, Trapeze editorial director Sam Eades, Gingerbread chief executive Rosie Ferguson and The Pool journalist Marisa Bate.

The closing date is 4 December. Send your 5,000 word novel opening to OneInFourSubmissions@orionbooks.co.uk
