Win $6,000, publication by Melville House and a trip to the Miami Book Fair in this competition for new authors

The Miami Book Fair/de Groot Prize is for an unpublished novella between 17,000 and 40,000 words. Novellas must be sustained narratives with a minimum word count of 17,000 and a maximum of 40,000. They may be on any topic and set anywhere in the world.

The winning novella will be published by Melville House and the writer will receive a $6,000 cash award and an expense-paid trip (hotel, travel, per diem) to the Miami Book Fair after publication, with the opportunity to read and participate in programs. Two runners up will each receive $2,000 and an expense-paid trip to the Miami Book Fair.

The competition is for fiction authors who have not commercially published a novel, novella or collection of short stories and authors who have not commercially published any book in any genre with a print run of more than 2,500 copies.

Submissions are accepted from writers anywhere in the world.

The submission fee is $50. The closing date is 15 June.
