Amazon will publish the winning story in A New Night Before Christmas Writing Competition for free to millions of Kindles and Kindle apps

Amazon has today launched the search for a modern-day version of Christmas classic Twas the Night Before Christmas, and invites entries from aspiring writers all over the UK. The winning story will be illustrated by Aless Baylis and published in the run-up to Christmas. The story will be available free for a five-day giveaway period this Christmas, after which the writer will receive royalties.

'The fact that there are so many versions of Twas the Night Before Christmas available on the Amazon store is testament to the popularity of the story,” said Amy Worth, UK Kindle content director, Amazon. 'We want people to continue to read this tale forevermore, and we believe that by creating a modern day equivalent, we will be able to shine a spotlight on the original and launch the career of an aspiring storyteller.'

The winning writer will also receive a £2,000 Amazon gift card and a top-of-the-range Fire tablet.
