Clare, Writing Magazine's next cover star, was presented with the major crime writing prize at Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival in Harrogate

Former police officer Clare won the award for her debut novel, I Let You Go, which has sold more than half a million copies.

We're particularly delighted that Clare's won this top crime writing award because she's a former WM columnist, whose Excuse me officer column offered excellent advice to writers who wanted to make sure their crime novels were as authentic as possible. You can read much more about Clare in the next issue of Writing Magazine, on sale on 4 August, because she's our star interview! Clare, whose new novel I See You will be published next week, talks in detail about how her writing life has been shaped by her own experiences, about making crime writing authentic, and about the massively popular trend for grip-lit novels. You can pre-order it here

We've also got exclusive digital interview content from the Crime Writing Festival in Harrogate, so make sure you don't miss that either!
