The Poetry Society has reinstated Judith Palmer as director following her resignation in May ...
Judith Palmer, who resigned from The Poetry Society in May, has been reinstated as director following a petition calling for her return being signed by nearly 1,200 people

The petition was launched by poet George Szirtes, and backed by leading poets including Carol Ann Duffy, Liz Lochhead, Gillian Clark and former Poetry Society president Jo Shapcott, who also resigned from The Poetry Society earlier this year. Judith Palmer will return to her post on Monday.

The Poetry Society, which has been troubled by an internal dispute and a recent run of resignations that have thrown its Arts Council funding into jeopardy, issued the following statement on its website: 'We are pleased that we have been able to agree Judith Palmer's return to the post of director with immediate effect and we now look forward to working with her again to start to bring stability back to the organisation.'

A new board will be elected at The Poetry Society's AGM on 14 September.
