Indie author and long-time advocate of self-promotion J.A. Konrath has gone back on his previous advice and suggests writers concentrate on writing rather than social media
'I've lived long enough to see my advice become obsolete, and that gives me hope for the future,' he blogged.
'Back when I began, this business was all about finding an agent, finding a publisher, then doing whatever you could to promote yourself.
'This blog spoke at length about social media, and book tours, and partnering with your publisher.
'Things have changed. '
Joe said that he has turned his back on social media, cancelling his Google+ account and rarely Facebooking, blogging or using Twitter.
'I haven't blogged or Tweeted in months,' he writes. 'I've been busy doing what writers should be doing: writing.
And guess what? My sales have remained constant.'
What do you think of Joe's new stance? Is he simply being provocative or is our love affair with using social media to build an author platform running out of steam?
