The Scottish crime supremo is to write a contemporary reworking of Austen's Northanger Abbey

It is part of HarperFiction's series of six contemporary reworkings of Jane Austen's novels. Joanna Trollope's Sense & Sensibility will be published next year, and Curtis Sittenfeld is reworking Pride & Prejudice.

HarperFiction editors are reported to be excited about McDermid upping the fear factor in her reworking of Austen's gothic spoof.
