The HWA and Sharpe Books have launched an award for a new work of historical fiction

The HWA & Sharpe Books Unpublished Novel Award will be given for an original, unpublished manuscript of historical fiction.

The winner will receive a publishing contract with Sharpe Books and £500. There are two further prizes of £100.

Novels may be any genre, including mystery, crime, adventure, romance or literary, as long as the majority of the story is set at least 35 years in the past. Manuscripts should be between 40,000 and 100,000 words. Writers entering the competition may be published or unpublished. Each entrant will be offered a consultation with Sharpe Books MD Richard Foreman.

Submit complete manuscripts and a synopsis by the closing date of 30 September.

The entry fee is £20 per manuscript.
