Win $3,000 in the contest honouring the achievements of the Red Cross for essays on the theme of 'blood'

Hektoen International is a journal of medical humanities. For the competition, enter essays up to 1,600 words. Subjects that will be considered include pioneers in haemotology, the history of venesection, bardber surgeons, leeches, vampires, blood transfusion, artifical blood, blood groups, blood preservation and banks, blood in surgery, blood diseases and the history and work of the Red Cross.

There are two prizes: $3,000 for the winner and $800 for the runner up.

Entry is free.

The closing date is 15 January.
