Six stories will be shortlisted for the high-profile prize, which offers £3,500 to the winner
The competition is for short stories up to 4,000 words. Stories may be written in any style and there is no set theme. All stories must be original and unpublished.
In addition to the first prize of £3,500, there is a second prize of £1,500 and a third prize of £500.
The six shortlisted entries to the Costa Short Story Award will be uploaded to the website in November and members of the public will be invited to vote for their favourite.
There is no entry fee. The closing date is 1 August.
