The six-part adaption of Wolf Hall will be broadcast next year
Starring opposite Homeland and Breaking Bad actor Damian Lewis, who will be Henry Vlll, Mark Rylance will play the role of Thomas Cromwell.
Mark Gatiss, Jonathan Pryce, Claire Foy, Joanne Whalley and Call the Midwife's Jessica Raine are also in the cast of the Wolf Fall mini-series, which will be directed by Peter Kosminsky.
Mark Rylance said: 'I love it when an author, such as Hilary Mantel, does her research and discovers an original understanding of a very familiar piece of history.'
Peter Straughan, who wrote the screenplay for Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, is adapting  Hilary Mantel's Booker-winning novel for TV.
Hilary Mantel is currently writing part three of her Thomas Cromwell trilogy, titled Mirror and the Light. She has revealed that it will open with Thomas Cromwell on the scaffold after Anne Boleyn's execution.
