The Poetry and Fiction Prizes 2018 each offer £10,000 to the winner

The Manchester Writing Competition, which is designed to encourage and celebrate new writing and offers the UK's biggest literary prizes for unpublished work, is open internationally to new and established writers.

• The Manchester Poetry Prize is for the best portfolio of three to five poems. The judges are Gillian Clarke, Imtiaz Dharker, Carol Ann Duffy and Adam O'Riordan. The entry fee is £17.50 per portfolio.

• The Manchester Fiction Prize is for the best short story up to 2,500 words. The judges are Niven Govinden, Livi Michael, Alison Moore and Nicholas Royle. The entry fee is £17.50 per story.

All entries must be original and unpublished.

The closing date is 14 September.
