Creative writing prize: The Manchester Writing Competition

Enter the UK's biggest literary awards for unpublished work, with £10,000 each for the poetry and fiction winners

The Manchester Writing Competition was established in 2008 by Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy. Open to writers from all over the world, it is designed to celebrate and encourage new writing from new and established authors.

The Manchester Fiction Prize is for short stories up to 2,500 words. This year's chair of judges is Nicholas Royle. The entry fee is £17.50.

The Manchester Poetry Prize is given for the best portfolio of three to five poems and this year the chair of judges is Adam O'Riordan. The entry fee is £17.50

The closing date to enter the Mancester Writing Competition is 29 September.
