This year's prize invites stories on the theme of 'space'

The HG Wells Short Story Competition was set up by BBC aeronautics correspondent Reg Turnill and his wife Margaret. Reg died in 2013 at the age of 97.

There are two categories: under 21s and over 21s. The prize for under 21s is £1,000, and for over 21s, £250. Winning and shortlisted stories will be published in an anthology.

Enter original, unpublished stories between 1,500 and 5,000 words. Stories must be on the 'space' theme, but do not have to be science fiction.

Entry to the HG Wells Short Story Competition is free for under 21s, and £10 per adult entry (£5 for students).

The closing date is 17 July.
