The Fiction Desk's annual competition for spine-chilling stories has a first prize of £500
The second prize is £250 and the third is £100. Winners and shortlisted stories will be published in an anthology.
The Fiction Desk encourages to writers to experiment with what constitutes a ghost story, but notes that its readers are more likely to prefer psychological chills to explicit horror.
Entries may be between 1,000 and 7,000 words, and must be original and unpublished.
There is an entry fee of £8 per story.
The closing date for The Fiction Desk Ghost Story Competition 2016 is 31 March.
