The annual international contest has £1,000 first prizes for short stories and poetry
The story category of the Bedford Competition is for original, unpublished short fiction up to 3,000 words. The winner will receive £1,000, and there are second and third prizes of £200 and £100. There is also a £100 Bedford Short Story Prize for the best entry by a writer resident in Bedford, and the £100 Cygnature Short Story Prize for the best entry by a writer under 25. The entry fee is £7.50 per story, or £15 for three stories entered on the same form.
The poetry category is for original, unpublished poems no longer than 40 lines. The prizes are £1,000, £200 and £100, with a £100 Bedford Prize for the best poem by a Bedford resident, and a £100 Cygnature Prize for the best poem by a writer under 25. The entry fee is £7.50 per poem, of £15 for three poems entered on the same form.
Winning and shortlisted entries will be published in a Bedford Competition anthology.
The closing date is 31 October.
