The winner will receive a £10,000 advance

The competition, from Good Housekeeping, Orion publishers and literary agent Luigi Bonomi, is for a first novel in the crime/thriller or women's fiction genres.

Ten shortlisted writers will spend a day with Orion and Luigi, and will get feedback on their submissions. Three runners up will receive Acer Switch laptops. The winner will be offered an advance and the possibility of publication.

To be eligible, writers must be unpublished and unagented.

To enter the Good Housekeeping Novel Writing Competition 2016, send a synopsis, the first 5,000 words of an original, unpublished novel and a 100-word mini-bio.

Entry is free.
