Win a £3,500 first prize for a short story up to 4,000 words

The annual Costa Short Story Award is a free-entry competition for a single short story.

There is a first prize of £3,500, a second prize of £1,000 and a third prize of £500. The three shortlisted stories will be posted online between mid-November and mid-January, and the public will be invited to vote for their favourite. The winner will be announced at the Costa Book Awards in January.

All entries must be original, unpublished short stories up to 4,000 words by writers resident in the UK and Ireland. Entries may be submitted by any writer. Agents and publishers may submit stories on an author's behalf.

Each author may enter only one story.

The closing date is 28 August 2020.
