The Benchmark Creative Writing Competition asks writers to imagine they had a bench dedicated to them
The competition is a fundraising collaboration between writer Rachel Cochrane and Willow Burn Hospice. It was sparked by Rachel's latest play, Benchmark, which took inspiration from the 'In Loving Memory' plaques on commemorative benches.
The competition asks writers to write 30 words imagining what a bench dedicated to them would say, and a further 200 words on why they had chosen the place they would like their bench to be. Entries may be prose or poetry.
The first prize is a hardwood three-seater bench with an engraved plaque. The second prize is a Kindle and the third prize is a £30 book token.
There is an entry fee of £5, 40% of which goes to Willow Burn Hospice.
The closing date is 19 January.
