Creative writing competition: The Welkin Writing Prize 2023

The free-entry competition is for short narrative prose

To enter, send original, unpublished narrative prose up to 400 words. The competition is being run by writer Matt Kendrick.

The winner will receive £150 and an annual Writers' HQ membership worth £190. The second prize is £75 and a £25 AdHoc Fiction book voucher, and the third prize is £50 There are additional £25 prizes for the best non placed piece by a writer with a disability or chronics illness, an LGBTQ+ writer, a working-class writer, a writer whose first language isn't English, a carer for an adult dependent and a new writer, and for the best pieces of historical fiction, humorous prose and speculative fiction.

Entry is free. Each writer may submit one piece.
