To celebrate its 10th anniversary, the prize money in each category has been increased to £1,000

The Queen Mary Wasafiri New Writing Prize 2019 is inviting international submissions in three categories: fiction, poetry and life writing.

To celebrate the tenth year of the prize, the prize money has increased from £300 and the winner in each category will get £1,000 and be published in print and online by Wasafiri. The judges this year are Louise Doughty for fiction, Warshan Shire for poetry, pictured, and Nikesh Shukla for life writing.

To be eligible to enter, writers must not have published a complete book in the category they are entering. Send original, unpublished entries of up to 3,000 words for prose and five poems for poetry.

Writers may enter a maximum of one submission in each category.

The entry fee is £6 for a single category, £10 for two and £15 for three.

The closing date is 28 June.
