Creative writing competition: The Fresher Writing Prize

The prize for unpublished short story writers and poets includes advice and feedback as well as cash

The competition from Fresher Publishing at Bournemouth University aims to support new talent and encourage unpublished writers. The winner in each of the short story and poetry categories will receive £200 and get industry feedback and advice. They will also be given the opportunity to have their work recorded at professional studios at Bournemough University, and have their work included in a Fresher Publications anthology. This year's judges are Ansa Khan Khattack, a commissioning editor at Picador, poet Antony Dunn and author and senior lecturer in creative writing at Bournemouth University Emma Scattergood.

Enter original, unpublished short stories up to 3,000 words and poetry up to 42 lines.

There is a fee of £7 per entry.

The closing date is 27 January 2020.
