The major creative writing prize is inviting entries in four categories

The international Bridport Prize is a highlight in the writers' competition calendar. For the 2023 Bridport Prize, entries are invited in the following categories:

• Poetry. The prizes are £5,000, £1,000, £500 and 10 x £100. Enter original, unpublished poems up to 42 lines on any theme and in any style. The entry fee is £12 per poem.

• Short story. The prizes are £5,000, £1,000, £500 and 10 x £100. Enter original, unpublished short fiction up to 5,000 words. The entry fee is £14 per story.

• Flash fiction. The prizes are £1,00, £500, £250 and 5 x £100. Enter original, unpublished flash fiction up to 250 words. The entry fee is £11 per flash fiction.

• The Peggy Chapman Andrews First Novel Award.  The prizes are £1,500 plus consultation with Tinder Press and AM Heath literary agency, and mentoring by The Literary Consultancy; £750 and manuscript assessment by The Literary Consultancy; 3 x £150 and manuscipt appraisal by The Literary Consultancy. The competition is novel manuscripts aimed at adult readers by unpublished British novelists. Enter between 5,000 and 8,000 words from the beginning of the manuscript plus a 300-word synopsis. The entry fee is £24 per novel manuscript.
