This year's competition for unpublished BAME writers is for picture-book fiction

Now in its fourth year, the 2023 Mo Siewcharran Prize is being hosted by Hachette Children's Books and this year is specifically for picture book fiction by unpublished, unagented authors from Black, Asian and minority ethnic and mixed heritage backgrounds.

The winner will receive £2,500, editorial feedback, development support and their book will be considered for publication. The runner up will receive £1,500, editorial feedback and a book hamper.

To enter, send picture book texts between 500 and 700 words. Prose and rhyme texts are equally acceptable.

Entry is free.

The closing date is 8 May.
