The deadline has been extended for English-language short story, poem and essay entries to the international writing competition

In each category there is a first prize of $1,000. The jury has the right to give a further special $500 prize in each category, and there is also the Literature and Latte Scrivener Award, worth $250, of Scrivener writing software.

The Hourglass Literary Magazine's International Writing Competition is for original, unpublished work. There are no theme or genre limitations. Short stories may be up to 7,000 words. Poets may submit up to three poems in an entry. Essays should be between 1,000 and 9,000 words.

The entry fee is $15. The closing date for English-language entries has been extended to 31 May.
